In a little less than a month, Lee Kernaghan and Zac & George will perform at the Tara Festival of Culture and Camel Races, dubbed “Australia’s Biggest Camel Party”.
Festival organisers are expecting a record number of attendees—over 12,000 punters—to arrive in Queensland’s Western Downs region across three days from Friday, 2 to Sunday, 4 August.
The festival brings a mix of camels, culture and camping to the rural town of Tara, as well as a six-fold increase in the municipality’s population (in the 2021 census, it was found that 1,980 people lived in Tara).
As well as Lee Kernaghan and Zac & George, the Tara Festival of Culture and Camel Races has locked in “Australia’s Best Country Music DJ,” Dee Jaye Bux, to perform on Saturday, 3 August. Other music acts include Celtic-rock big band Murphy’s Pigs and this year’s Australian Idol favourite “cowboy camel farmer” Trent Richardson.
In a statement, Festival President Kerry Kelly said, “What began as a small inaugural event in 2001 attracting 950 attendees, we’ve grown to be a significant event on Queensland’s event calendar, and our committee of local and passionate volunteers continue each festival to set the bar higher.
“We’re so humbled and proud to think that the Tara Festival would evoke so much excitement, bring on the party!”
Kelly added, “Tara has a population under of 2,000 and our little community are proud in what we have achieved in continuing to build this event.”

Last month, Zac & George travelled to Nashville for this year’s CMA Fest, following the release of singles Hearing The Birds Sing and the summery track Beer On The Water.
Today (5 July), Lee Kernaghan dropped his first new song in five years, Who I Am, featuring James Johnston.
In a statement, Kernaghan said of the duet, “There’s a terrific story behind the song I’ve recorded with James, and it goes to the heart of who we are and what we do. People who’ve heard the track have told me they get goosebumps listening to it, and even though I’ve heard it a lot of times, it affects me in the same way.”
