John Williamson released his 21st album, How Many Songs, yesterday (4 April). The new collection of songs arrives ahead of the Australian country icon’s national farewell tour.
How Many Songs is Williamson’s first album in seven years. The follow-up to 2018’s Butcherbird, this latest album showcases his great love for Australia, its people, and its landscape.
“I’ve been writing songs inspired by floods, pride of country, getting older and feeling so alive overlooking the Numinbah Valley in SE Queensland,” Williamson explained.
He continued, “However, like any artist, I won’t be happy unless I get good feedback from you people who have been to my shows and/or have bought my previous albums. There are a few new approaches musically, but it will always be very Aussie.
“You are the only judges that mean a lot to me. So please, just have a listen and I hope you enjoy it. It’s been fun for me.”
You can check out How Many Songs below or order a copy here.
Williamson has enjoyed a 55-year career. A musician and conservationist, he represents Australian country music and shares messages of protecting the environment equally. He’s sold more than five million albums and over 100 million streams, received 28 Golden Guitar awards and three ARIA Awards, and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2010.
In 1992, Williamson was made a Member of the Order of Australia “for service to Australian country music and in stimulating awareness of conservation issues.”
This year, the True Blue star will embark on his final tour of Australia. The 55 Years – My Travellin’ Days Are Done tour begins this month, with Williamson set to visit some of his favourite venues across the country. The dates and venues are listed below.
He said of the final tour, “It’s hard to believe it’s 55 years since I released Old Man Emu. So, it seems fitting to make a fuss about it after COVID messed up my 50th-year celebrations and touring. So, here I go again, one more time around Australia.”
Tickets are available now via John Williamson’s website.
